The Story of Easter: Retold by Gwen Ellis

The Story of Easter
Retold by Gwen Ellis

The Story of Easter retold by Gwen Ellis is an easy to read and to understand accounting of the resurrection of Christ. The book is divided into sections beginning with Jesus' donkey ride into Jerusalem. The Story takes the reader through the Crucifixion of Jesus to Jesus going into Heaven.

My four year old listened to me read it and then could easily answer questions and retell the story herself. The Crucifixion part is retold in a gentle way as to convey the message but not the gore. I give this book an A++.

As a bonus the book comes with a companion DVD. The DVD goes through the chapters of the book and then adds a few other stories from the Bible. The Bible characters are portrayed in a fun but loving way that attracts a child’s attention. We watched it over and over. The DVD also includes fun games for children to play on the computer.

I received this book free from Thomas Nelson Publishers as part of their BookSneeze.com http://BookSneeze.com book review bloggers program. I was not required to write a positive review. The opinions I have expressed are my own. I am disclosing this in accordance with the Federal Trade Commission’s 16 CFR, Part 255

Jane Austen by Peter Leithart- Book Review for BookSneeze.com

Peter Leithart uses daily accountings of Jane Austen’s life to present a beautiful illustration of what Austen’s life was like. Thorough letters from Jane herself to others and family memories after Jane’s death the reader is presented with a realistic look at how Jane viewed herself and those around her. She seems to wholeheartedly cling to her Christian beliefs however she always inserts her own whimsical sense of humor to any situation. This book was a very easy read and lets the reader see another side to the famous Jane Austen.  I recommend this book to anyone who has read any of Jane Austen's novels.

Visit my link to BookSneeze to see how you can enjoy free books in exchange for a review!! It really works and is lots of fun!!

Dumpster Treasure

Blogging my last comments made me think of a time.......a long long time ago....when I was 15 or so...  My family went on vacation to the Hill Country of Texas.  Lots of sun, tubing, and trips to town.  Well the grown ups let us kids go to town by ourselves one day to get water balloons.  We decided dumpster hopping was a good use of our time to so we hit several hot spots behind some grocery stores.  We hit paydirt!!!!  Bags and bags of pork rinds, ruffles, and candy.  slightly expired but who cares.  We ate the candy and took our other finds back to camp.  We just sat the pork rinds on the counter and waited for the adults to dig in and they did.  Well we never told about where we got the pork rinds and they didnt get sick so cheers to us.

DUMPSTER DIVING FINDS YEAH

So got some cool dumpster finds lately.  Four bird feeders made of old fence boards, three nintendo systems complete with games(ebay all the way), two old lamps, and check out this story....

My friend, lets call her Martha, goes dumpster diving regularly.  She requests that I keep her hot spots a secret so I will however she found a stash of new chocolates in the box and everything.  They weren't even expired.  This is the good kind.  Homemade and sold at specialty stores.  There were about 100 of them all wraped individually still in date so I took them and sold them for her and she made $50 bucks.  One lady bought and ate some many she puked.  So trash to treasure comes in all shapes and sizes.

Revival with Rhyme and Reason

Oh Glorious God!!!! Wonderful Jesus!!! Friday night started the Rhyme and Reason Revival at our church (Kenefick Southern Baptist Church). It was wonderful. Night one was about two mile christians. Wayne explained how most people only do what they have to and count their chickens hatched but we should push the limits of what we are suppose to do. We should always do all that we can do. In the Roman times Jews were made to carry loads for up to one mile if asked to by any Roman. S0 hence a one mile christian. A two mile christian is someone who is willing to carry the burden for two or more miles. Ok gotta go to work so I will blog latter about night two. May god bless your day.
